The origins of Ben Sherman

Ben Sherman was founded by Arthur, Benjamin Sugarman during 1963. Ben was born in Brighton England but had briefly relocated to the United States where he married the daughter of a Californian clothing manufacturer. Ben and his family moved back to the England and he started his shirt manufacturing company. The iconic button down check shirts quickly became popular in London and the demand for it grew. After Sugerman sold his business during 1975, he relocated to Australia, thereafter the company has seen varrious ownerships and changes and finally in 2004 the company was bought out by the Oxford industries Inc for 80 million British Pounds. Oxford Industries Inc also cancelled the Ben Sherman womens range. Ben Sherman stores can be found throughout the world including Ben Sherman South Africa.
