Today, the Cash Converters franchise, which also focuses on the buying and selling of quality pre-owned goods, continues to thrive, as is evidenced by its various specials and online catalogues.

About Cash Converters

Firmly established in the second-hand buying and selling industry, Cash Converters has also become known for the company’s commitment to providing business loans, plus the way it has inspired hundreds of entrepreneurially minded people to become business owners.

The History of Cash Converters

The Cash Converters story kicks off in Perth, Western Australia. That is where Brian Cumins and his partners opened the first branch back in 1984. And a mere four years later, that one branched had evolved into no fewer than seven.

Going from strength to strength, Cash Converters’ success seemed too big to be contained on one continent alone. Thus, international stores started opening, including in the UK in 1992, New Zealand in 1993, and South Africa in 1994. And the sole reason for Cash Converters reaching South African soil is because the current CEO and CFO, Richard Mukheibir and Peter Forshaw respectively, were among the first to provide the country with international franchising. The brand’s business plan appealed to South Africans, and soon more branches popped up all over the country as more people realised the advantages of buying/selling quality pre-owned items.

But the evolution of Cash Converters wasn’t over; in 2007, the National Credit Act was implemented, resulting in Cash Converters boosting its services to include cash advance offering. Today, the brand has established itself as a well-known micro lender and remains one of South Africa’s most profitable franchises. In fact, Cash Converters were runners-up at the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Franchise Association of South Africas Franchisor of the Year awards.
