Michael Kors was born Karl Anderson Junior in 1959. When his model, a former model, remarried when Karl was 5 years old, he was given the option to choose a new first name to go with his new last one (Kors). From then on, he was known as Michael Kors.

It was evident from early on that Michael had a keen sense for fashion. For example, he advised his mother to cut the bows off her wedding dress for her second marriage.

In 1981, Kors launched his Michael Kors womens label at Bergdorf Goodman. And a mere 3 years later he opened his first catwalk show. And in 2006, a full quarter century after it was created, the Michael Kors brand opened its first retail stores (all of which are operated either directly or through licensing partners).

Today, Kors’ award-winning eye for detail has ensured a rich collection of high-end fashion accessories that are sold in some of the most prestigious cities worldwide including New York, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Milan, Dubai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, South Africa, and more.
