Sandton: Tourism, shopping and much more!
Forming part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Sandton is known as a very affluent area/suburb in South Africa’s Gauteng Province. Its name is the amalgamation of two of Sandton’s popular suburbs, Sandown and Bryanston. Following urban decay in downtown Johannesburg which resulted in numerous corporate offices abandoning Johannesburg’s CBD for Sandton in the 1990s, Sandton rose and expanded and became the new financial district of South Africa and Johannesburg’s premier business centre.
But it’s not all serious business in sleek and sunny Sandton, for there’s also a host of tourist attractions that can help fill the time for locals and visitors. Like the Cumberland Bird Sanctuary in Bryanston that promises a fun-filled family day out. Providing 5.2 hectares of protected area, the sanctuary is home to a rich collection of exotic trees, incredible plants, plus approximately 82 different bird species.
Boosting Sandton’s reputation even further is its many beautiful locations offering a sophisticated vibe. Such as nightclubs, bars, and restaurants, most of which are conveniently located within walking distance from the Gautrain station.
And one of the main attractions in Sandton is Sandton City, which just so happens to be the biggest (and some say most inspiring) shopping mall in the entire Sandton / Johannesburg.
Sandton: Map for shopping

Like its 300+ stores and well-loved brands like New York Minute, Forever New, and MediRite Pharmacy.
Rosebank Mall is another powerful option for those in the mood to shop. Drop in at Rosebank Mall and experience a well-balanced tenant mix including the likes of Aldo, Sorbet, Tread + Miller, and more.
Over in Randburg, Cresta Shopping Centre awaits with its 260+ shopping store options. Offering shoppers a delightful mix of fashion, food, décor, tech and other services, Cresta houses popular brands like Apple iStore, Coricraft, and Refinery.
